The Butcher's Den

Today’s review goes to a great person inside and out also we can say a successful man who started from a normal employee and ends up to become the owner on several restaurants in Kuwait. While I was visiting The Butcher ‘s Den located at Al-Bida’a Strip, I met Mr. Ahmad Al-Bader the owner of The Butcher’s Den, Burger Hub, Pizzetta, Prime & toast, Izakaya, Pickles, Wasabi, Wardi OO Hail, Maarmesha and some other restaurants.

Brief summary about Mr. Ahmad education degrees:
After graduating from high school Mr. AlBader decided to attend the Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island to go after his passion. After a while, the ministry of highly education told him that the state of Kuwait will not offer scholarships for majors in Johnson and Wales so he transferred to Suffolk University in Boston where he majored in Finance and minored in Marketing.
His passion of cooking:
Mr. Ahmad attended the renowned Cordon Bleu for a 6 week intense training course his reason for taking this course was to have some fun. He later joined the French Culinary Institution in New York and he earned a diploma in Culinary Arts. Moreover, he studied restaurant management and obtained a diploma in baking.
His restaurants:
His first appeal was with Burger Hub in 2006 after that he opened prime & toast in 2006, Pizzetta in 2010 and The Butcher’s Den in 2011.
Cooking lessons:
  • Mr. Ahmad is thinking to give teaching lessons at The Butcher’s Den in the second floor, in his preparatory kitchen.
  • The idea will be approved soon.

This is a picture of his preparatory kitchen.

My experience at The Butcher's Den
If your searching for a steakhouse you must go and try The Butcher's Den, where you can find quality meat and prime cuts.
I went to The Butcher's Den for lunch. The place was quiet and cozy as the theme was simple. As we were waiting for the waiter to take our order, she brought a cotton candy!! It was such a good idea and I did like it because restaurants usually bring bread with butter. In addition,  it was a unique idea to start with something sweet.

Cotton Candy
For starters we had:
  • Baby Romain Salad
  • Garlic Bread with oregano
  • Cauliflower Gratin which is compound of cauliflower and melted cheese.

Just Order

Today I will share with you one of my favorite home delivery businesses.

Their Story..
At the beginning, Madam Z was known for her delicious dishes. In every occasion, her family and friends ask her to make one of her famous dishes. Later on, her passion for cooking lead her to design and organize her own kitchen, which was prepared with all professional cooking equipments. Therefore, in 2011, she officially started her business. Her family encouraged her by taking her dishes to special occasions and gatherings in order to encourage the word of mouth and build reputation.

One day, a friend of mine recommended the food so I decided to order, and those are the dishes that I ordered:
Nachos Salad: Lettuce, red cabbage, cheddar cheese, corn, nachos and their special sauce.
Dolma: Grape leaves, egyptian rice, tomatoes and their sweet and sour sauce.
Chicken Fillet: Fried chicken fillet with their special white sauce.
Cinnamon Fingers: Served with white creamy sauce.
I highly recommend you to try it. The secret in their ingredients makes you addicted to it.

Triangle' Restaurant Kuwait City

Background

Triangle opened back in 2010. They started by home delivery and takeaway. They introduced their new branch in 2012 in Kuwait city, Downtown Salhiya Al-Jowhara Tower. The idea of the restaurant is to create something unique. Most of Triangle’s dishes have a triangle shape! The restaurant serves a wide variety of American food, including burgers and sandwiches.

My personal experience at Triangle

I was stuck in traffic and I wanted to try something new. I saw the restaurant and I really liked the idea of it. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the theme were great.

Review: Chili Pepper Mexican Grill

Written by Mark

Chili Pepper is a new Mexican restaurant that recently opened up by the same guys behind the shawerma place Slice. My friends and I headed there on Thursday night thinking it was a proper dine-in Mexican restaurant but once we got there we realized it was actually a fast food place.

The entrance to Chili Pepper is on the ground floor but as soon as you enter you need to go down a flight of stairs since the actual restaurant is located in the basement. The place had a bunch of tables downstairs as well as the ones located outside the main entrance so finding a place to sit should never be a problem. Ordering is simple with the process is split into three steps:

Red Chili
Guacamole KD0.600
Step 1 – Choose a Type
Burrito
Burrito Bowl
Salad
Hard Tacos (2pcs)
Soft Tacos (2pcs)
Quesadilla
Step 2 – Choose a Protein
Chicken KD3.150
Steak KD3.350
Barbacoa KD3.350
Shrimp KD3.500
Vegetarian KD2.750
Step 3 – Choose the Salsa
Sour Cream KD0.200
Pico de Gallo
Corn Salsa
Green Chili

The three steps
I ended up going with the soft tacos which come as two small pieces so I had one of them chicken and the other barbacoa (lamb). Between the two I preferred the chicken but the soft tacos were just too small and not very filling at all. When I passed by the second time today for lunch I chose the burrito and really thats the way to go, you get a lot more for the same price.
Speaking of price, I don’t understand why a fast food Mexican grill has to be so pricy. I had the chicken burrito today which is KD3.150 and that’s fine but then I added sour cream and guacamole and ended up paying KD3.950. Both those toppings should really be factored into the price. Still though the food is pretty good which is why I went back again. One cool thing they have is the nutritional information for all their items. This means you can know exactly how many calories you’re having which is great for calorie counters. If you’re interested in trying them out, they’re located in Kuwait City in the corner of the building right behind where Ubon and Rio are [Map].

Our Visit to Maki, Marina Waves

Maki is one of the most famous Japanese restaurants in Kuwait. Maki was opened in 2002 at Marina Waves in Kuwait. The restaurant serves Japanese food and reflects the Japanese culture. It has four branches in Kuwait that are located in Salhiya Mall, Burj Jassim, The Avenues Mall and Marina Waves.

Regarding their prices, people at the beginning thought that their prices were expensive compared to other restaurants. However, this perspective has been changed since new Japanese restaurants have entered the market.

On Saturday, my friend and I went to Marina Waves Maki for lunch. The place was calm and quiet. Visitors can sit outdoors, facing the sea view.  The food was great as usual and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

We ordered Crispy Salad and Edamame as side dishes. The salad has many ingredients such as rocket, frisee, cucumber, carrot, pink pepper, rice pearl, avocado, crispy harusame, sweet potato, cassava, beetroot, crabsticks, wasabi and yuzu flakes along with their special sauce.

Crispy Salad: 4.000 KD
Spicy Edamame : 1.950 KD

Also, we ordered Tempura which is Prawns served with Maki’s golden special sauce. In addition to this, we tried the Issa Mame Maki, which is tempura prawns, crab sticks, carrot sticks, cucumber sushi rolls with a special sauce on top and crisps at the bottom.

Finally, the BWB Mame Maki roll was a combination of crabsticks, prawn tempura, tobiko, avocado, frisee, crispy tempura and edible golden leaves with their famous and special, sweet and spicy sauce.

  • Wazzani Sushi
  • Chicken Noodles
  • Beef Teriyaki
  • Crazytto Mame Maki

Overall, it was a fantastic experience as usual and we enjoyed a wide variety of Japanese cuisine.
